Lower Saxony

The diverse natural scenery of Lower Saxony easily catches the heart of visitors. The federated state is located in the west and north of Germany between the rivers Ems and Elbe. It has a reputation for the traditional beauty of its many pastoral towns and villages. In the Harz mountains witches are said to mingle on Walpurgisnacht.

Lower Saxony is also famous for its agricultural power and its business industry. The motor vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen is based in Wolfsburg. The state capital Hanover is known for hosting trade fairs. Lower Saxony is the second biggest state in Germany and borders the Netherlands.

Lower Saxony is located in the west and north of Germany. It is a large federated state covering 47,710 km². It has 8.003 million inhabitants.
