Rhineland Palatinate

Romantic castles, rich forests und vast vineyard slopes – Rhineland-Palatinate has a lot to offer for visitors and inhabitants alike. The federated state in the west of Germany is not only renowned for the romantic Rhine and Westerwald regions, but also for its internationale vibes. It is bordered by France, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Hikers and cyclists appreciate that 42 % of Rhineland-Palatinate’s area is covered by forests. However, the state is also home to a number of vibrant towns and cities like Ludwigshafen, Koblenz, Trier, Kaiserslautern and Worms. The state capital Mainz is also the largest city.

Moreover, Rhineland-Palatinate’s is known as a paradise for connoisseurs: Rhine-Hesse, Nahe, Ahr and Moselle make the state the number one wine-growing region in Germany. Food also plays an important role in these parts, with the palatinate speciality „Saumagen“ – sow’s stomach – famously having been the former Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s favourite dish.

Rhineland-Palatinate is located in the west of Germany. It covers 19,854 km² and has a population of 4.098 million.
